Andrew Hague Cycles updated 28.10.07

Recently I had the pleasure of visiting Andrew Hague, of Andrew Hague Cycles, who lives with his family at his beautiful home near Brecon, here in Wales. Andrew had already been out for a bike ride that morning and as soon as I arrived we started talking about bikes and Andrew’s involvement in the bicycle industry. Andrew set up the Andrew Hague Cycles factory in the late 70’s on a small industrial estate in Ebbw Vale, South Wales having moved there from the original Andrew Hague Cycles home in Leicestershire. From here a host of fame components, luggage racks, bags and other bicycle components were manufactured with up to 50% going for export. At the time Andrew Hague Cycles supplied most of the frame builders in the UK from the giant Raleigh factory right down to the smallest of frame-building workshops that abounded around that time. Andrew Hague is still a successful globe-trotting businessman and, as always, he uses his ‘Brompton’ folding bicycle whenever he can to beat the traffic congestion in the bigger cities that he visits. Later on in the afternoon Andrew showed me his collection of bicycles and also his well equipped home workshop where he carries out modifications and repairs to his fleet. In the garage next door were parked Andrew’s immaculately kept Rolls Royce and Bentley!
