BLUE & GOLD

Andrew's new Brooks May '08

Spring 2003

After my crash in 2001, my Mercian was repaired by Argos Racing Cycles. They did an excellent job with a brilliant paint job. The colours were different to the original, with the flam gold (which had a tendency to turn mustard in the sun) changed to a richer darker colour. I have also changed the gearing into a triple, with Ultegra shifters, with a 12 25 cassette and a FSA crank set with 44 32 22 rings. The idea being to give lower gears without having big (and heavier) rings. The front changer is controlled by using a down tube lever, as I still have the original Dura Ace STI levers which are for a double. Other additions include a shorter 3TTT stem, but still with the nice wide 3TTT bars. Gone are the steel Salmon guards, replaced with chromo plastic SKS. I also use Mavic ceramic Open pro rims, which are proving to be quite sturdy and reliable, giving a good braking surface. The tyres are Continental folders with Michelin tubes.
