GLOOMY SATURDAY ~ THE
LAST RIDE.

After 29 years of dwelling in Newport City Nick was coming home back to live in Croesyceiliog. So this was the last time he was to ride out of the City and meet me at our meeting place that we call ‘Blackout Junction’ near Newbridge on Usk. It had been announced this week that Chris Evans, the irritating UK radio and TV presenter had purchased the local pub here. The weather after weeks of rain had turned cold and frosty. The back lane from Newport was closed due to road works and Nick had had to scramble through a field to cycle out to meet me. The air was smoky and cold as we ambled around the lanes. Darkness was at 16:00 so we spent little time sightseeing and made for home on the salt covered roads to Croesyceiliog....20miles.
