I choose a Mercian Audax frame, because of their reputation for good quality and excellent finishes. It had to be something special as it was to be a 40th. birthday present from my parents. Nick built my Mavic Open Pro rims with Shimano105 hubs to perfection, the 105 theme is continued with the brakes and the gear changers. The 9 speed cassette is a Shimano Ultegra using 13-27 cogs. The handlebars are nice wide 3TTT, as is the stem, the STI levers are Dura Ace, but kept simple with a non 'flight deck' system, just a simple optical display, as on my old RSX. I have tried all sorts of saddles in my life, including fancy gel things, but I always come back to the best, Brooks and this one is the best, a Swift with titanium rails. The seat post is a simple Kalloy Uno. The chainset is a Stronglight Escapade 44,32, which I choose for its reliability and good value! The chain is a Sachs and the pedals are Shimano 535. Other stuff includes Vredestein Ricorso tyres with Air B inner tubes, 2 Elite bottle cages, a Cateye cordless computer and a pair of Salmon mudguards. The colour scheme is a bit unusual, with the main colour flamboyant gold with Anquetiel blue bands and head tube.
