On arriving at the Mercian workshop, which is situated a mile or so down the road, I was met by Jane who introduced me to Derek, Tony and Gavin, the Mercian craftsmen. Derek showed me around the workshop, which has an oldie worldy appearance and was very busy with lots of filing and hack-sawing and emery-ing going on! Derek answered all of my questions about frame building and of the Mercian way of building frames. In the workshop was a selection of veteran frames in for restoration including an old Mercian, a Bates and an old Claude tandem!
