Day 3

Day 1 ~ Day 2 ~ Day 3

Good weather has always been a vital factor in our camping trips, so I was a bit worried when in the night I heard torrential rain on the tent. It seemed to rain all night and I was glad I was in my Jack Wolfskin tent! However in the morning it was dry and the Sun was shining there was no evidence of the rain only slightly damp grass. We cooked our bacon rolls washed down by strong coffee before setting out down the quiet Irfon valley and then along to the village of Beulah. Here we took on board cold drinks and planned the ride back to Rhayadar. On the map I had noticed a mountain pass from the main Beulah to Newbridge-on-Wye road. We turned up a narrow surfaced track that took us up and up into the mountains. After passing a few isolated farms, the asphalt fizzled out and turned to a rough track. We then took the mountain pass to Rhayadar , this is part of the Abergwesyn common a 16,500 acre area owned by the National Trust, free for anyone to roam on. After a good afternoon 's cycling and pushing and dragging over the mountain, we reached the tarred road on the other side. From here it was a quick ride down to join the main South to North Wales road [A470] that took us back to Rhayadar. This year we had taken on some new tracks along with the old ones, making an interesting weekend of touring.
