More Rough-Stuff in Mid-Wales 2007 - Day Three

12/08/07

With heavy rain in the night and in the morning it looked like we were in for a soaking on the last day of our trip. However, it stopped raining around 10:00 so we packed up and cycled the six miles to Llandovery. Here we went in the West End café, which is mostly frequented by motorcyclists. We had a fine full cooked breakfast, washed down with lashings of hot tea! After cycling for a while on the main road the path to Tirabad beckoned. This is an unknown lane to us, it climbs over 300 metres up the side of the Mynydd Eppynt range. This really is a fantastic ascent, the sun shone, the view of all the mountains took us on a magical trip into this mostly, tourist-forgotten, area - the main reason being it is a military firing range. All was quiet that day, the only reminder we had was the odd abandoned building and the army markings on every fence and gate. We reached Tirabad, from here it is a descent down to Llanwrtyd. More often than not our last day of the trip is spent trudging along main roads to get back home. This time was different, as we cycled on the best day of the trip we both wished this ride would not end, but before long we were back in Llanwrtyd with memories of three great days of cycling!
