ROUGH-STUFF CAMPING TRIP TO DRYGARN FAWR ~ Day 2.

14/09/08

I was awoken by a blazing moon in the night. I got out of my tent and walked a few yards to the imposing cairn. The moon shone mist below and the shadows of the night made a memorable sight! There was a spectacular sunrise later, which heralded our time to brew coffee, air camping gear and make our way down from the ancient summit, which had allowed us to stay for the night. The summit of Carnau 537m is two miles from Drygarn, on the same massive plateau, there is track marked on the map. We were unable to find this and spent a couple of hours of tussock humping traversing even more treacherous and deadly bog. After a while the tiny little muddy track was found to take us up to the summit of Carnau. Here a drum up of bacon and onion rolls was enjoyed. There was a good track from the top of the mountain, a stream crossing was made by myself, here I received a first-rate muddy soaking! Fortunately, the rough stone forest roads came to our aid, to take us off the plateau and on to the asphalt lane to Beulah. Another brilliant ride to the ancient Cairns, each time it gets better!
