All lanes in Gwent lead to Whitecastle, as they did this beautiful Saturday evening. We cycled from Usk to Raglan; from here we climbed up the Cuckoo lane in the warm sun. We were now in the myriad of lanes that criss-cross this peaceful area of Gwent. We rode along the tranquil path that took us past the mysterious Creta Cota house and eventually brought us to the tiny village of Lllantilio Croessenny. The Hostrey Inn, which was once the hub of this small village, was now closed and had been turned into a private house by its owners. This seems to be a new disease that has crept into rural life over the past ten years, with many pubs closing and making the countryside even more remote than before! From here we cycled up the steep rough track which is part of the Offa's Dyke walk, this took us to Whitecastle. We stopped here for a while to contemplate our surroundings and have a bite to eat. A fast ride home then took place, through Llanarth, Goytre and then along the main road to arrive back home in Croesyceiliog at 22:30....44 miles.
