WHITECASTLE FOR LUNCH AGAIN.25.7.10
It was a very warm Sunday morning as the Brothers left Croesyceiliog to ride out along the scented lanes of Glascoed to Usk to stock up with drink and food. This ride was the classic Whitecastle, a small mediaeval fort surrounded by trees in northern Gwent. A good ride was enjoyed out through Llandenny and Raglan. The sickly yellow fields of rape had turned into the more subtle and picturesque fields of golden barley. The rough Offa’s Dyke track up to the castle was taken with ease. After a brief stop for brunch and a chat with the friendly curator it was time to cycle back through the golden lanes. A splendorous ride was enjoyed through Llanarth and then along to Chainbridge and a good climb up to Goytre was enjoyed before going down Rumble Street through the shaded lanes of Monkswood and Glascoed. The last stretch of what is now becoming our favourite route home, took us along Jerusalem lane to New Inn and back to Croesyceiliog along the old abandoned road.....42 miles.Click an image to see larger version.
